Bio
Sam Verhoeven (° 1981) is active as a composer, producer, singer and actor.
He began his career as a musical actor. For instance, he starred in “Tintin The Sun Temple” (2001/2007), “She Loves Me” (2002/2003), “The Little Mermaid” (2004), “Dracula”, (2005/2006), “A Song Of Sand” (2007/2008) and “Daens” (2008/2009).
His voice can be heard in several animated series and films such as “Lazy Town”, “Kratts In The Wild”, “Cars” and “Imagination Movers”.
For two seasons, he played the role of Geert De Pauw in the popular VTM soap “Familie” (2005/2006) and had guest roles in “Thuis” and “Zone Stad”.
He has hosted the popular café-chantry “Hotel Vocal” since 2005 and was Luc Caals’ side kick in the “Caals Comedy Club” from 2007 to 2014.
Sam is director of the Fakkeltheater. Since he took office in 2009, the Fakkeltheater has grown into one of the best-known theatres in Antwerp, with over 500 performances and more than 75,000 visitors each year.
In addition, he is founder and inspirer of the musical company Iskariot and co-founder of the production house Het Achterland. He was also founder of the musical company Judas TheaterProducties (1999-2022).
He composed the music for several musicals seen at home and abroad, such as “Lilies” (2011), “Josephine B.” (2013/2022), “Muerto!” (2013/2016), “The Muse of Rubens” (2016), “The War of the Roses” (2016), “Goodbye, Norma Jeane” (2017), “Magdalena” (2018/2024), “Aladdin” (2019), “November ’89” (2019), “Blind Date” (2022), “Pocahontas” (2023), “If I Fall” (2023) and “Arty” (2023).
Several new musicals with music by him will premiere in the coming seasons: “Babes” (2024), “The Witch’s Stone” (2024), “A XXXMas Carola” (2024) and “Ja, ik wil” (2025).
In 2012, he won the Flemish Musical Prize for best content performance for the music of “Lelies”.
In 2023, he was nominated for a Musical Award in the ‘best music, lyrics and arrangements’ category for the music of “Blind Date”.
